Berlin is the capital city of Germany and one of Germany’s 16 federal states. One-third area of the city comprises of forests, parks, rivers, and lakes. Berlin is the largest city in Germany in both population and area. The city is home to world-renowned universities. Its economy is based on significant industries like IT, Pharmaceuticals, biomedical engineering, service sector, creative industries and research facilities, media corporations, and convention venues. Berlin has seen a noticeable emergence in the entrepreneurial scene. Berlin is in northeastern Germany and straddles the banks of the River Spree. The economy of Berlin in 2017 is €137 billion which is an increase of about 5.4% compared to 2014.

Berlin is the third most visited city destination in Europe. In 2015, Berlin became the leading organizer of conferences in the world hosting 195 International meetings. Berlin has a highly complex transport which provides a wide range of urban mobility. 40 Nobel Prize winners are affiliated with the Berlin-based universities. The city has internationally renowned research centers such as Fraunhofer Society, the Leibniz Association, the Helmholtz Association, and Max Planck Society. Around 65,000 professional scientists were working in R&D in Berlin.
